History

A tradition of success

Service Heat Treating, Inc. was founded by Richard Armitage, a heat treat furnace salesman who had a vision for a quality, service-oriented heat treat company. In 1974, his vision attracted prominent Milwaukee-area investors and he began operations with two batch furnaces and a single shift.

By 1978 Richard grew Service Heat Treating into a twenty-four-hour-a-day operation. Revenues from an expanding customer base were invested in new services and equipment.

This trend of reinvesting in technology continues today, evidenced by our growth in vacuum and gas nitride/nitrocarburizing equipment and expertise.

In 1995, Richard Armitage passed away after a serious illness. However, his vision lives on in a business shaped by his example and driven by his passion for success. Today we strive to carry his legacy forward with a company that remains known by all for quality and commitment to service.
